After the Academy throwing all their love at young, up-and-coming actresses for the last few years, I'm ready for a lead actress race filled with Glenn Close, Nicole Kidman, Viola Davis, Toni Collette and Olivia Colman (if she goes lead).

Yeah, Widows seems like it could end up in a weird place where it is not ~artistique cinéma~ enough for a 'regular' campaign but not quite in-your-face mainstream enough for the "best popular film" category either. I'm super excited for it too but def. agree on the "this year's Gone Girl" vibe.

Although for that matter I wonder if ASIB is gonna go for the regular BP or Best Popular lmao, AMPAS is such a mess.

As ridiculous as the popular film category is, at least it's made things a bit more interesting. I'm so curious to see which films actually end up there (aside from Black Panther, the film it was made for, of course).
