Amy Jade Winehouse (1983 - 2011) died of alcohol poisoning 7 years ago today (a death that was exacerbated by a heart condition resulting from years of addiction and bulimia), making her another name on the list of the "27 Club" (I didn't want to write she was a 'member' of the club, it just sounded bad and weirdly encouraging of this sad ( Read more... )

I remember the posts of her spiraling, when she was scary skinny and always wore those fucked up ballet slippers everyone hated.

Her story is so heartbreaking and the fact that the really ugly parts of her addiction were so publicly chronicled is tragic.

I made a conscious decision to not include any of those posts. To me...that's now how I want to remember a singer that was so influential on my life. I don't think of that as the "real" Amy Winehouse?

I’ll always miss her :( I remember just being angry when she passed but now I’m just sad of what could’ve been.

People are still such turds about her. It's so funny when somebody's addiction kills them, apparently. She seemed like a very sweet person and was super talented. It was such an enormous loss when she died, can't imagine how much more amazing music she would be able to make if she lived longer.

I love her music, but a lot of it I can't relate to. The one song I absolutely do relate to is You Sent Me Flying and I guess that's what makes it my favorite one.

Yeah it makes me deeply uncomfortable how people still joke about her death. I posted something about her on Facebook two years ago, on the five year anniversary of her death, and I got several joke comments in response that were tasteless and gross.

Also I will literally never forgive NPH for his “edgy” Halloween decoration that was “the corpse of Amy Winehouse” three months after her death.

Seriously, fuck NPH for that shit. The actual BBQ corpse was so grotesque looking and upsetting.

I looked it up before I submitted that comment to see if it was as bad as I remembered and it was worse. And made even worse by the fact that she hadn’t even been dead that long.
