This album is a masterpiece. I played it to absolute death when it came out. Werewolf is my fave, I think. She's such an artist, at like a cellular level.
I know. I just remember how alive she was during interviews in this era and how she really resonated with me and it was great seeing her so confident and in that place.
Ditto. I didn't really get the album title until this post. It's such a clever way to consider your body, thoughts, and life as an entity that's part of something bigger, and you're the driver behind it observing and making corrections. I love how self aware she is, and she realized that she was being destructive instead of nurturing. I really appreciate the self-parenting talk because I'm behaving the same way with myself. Observing behaviors objectively, and actively and patiently trying to replace bad habits with positive ones.
P4K: What was the catalyst for this record? Was it an internal thing where you needed catharsis, or was there someone urging you? FA: No one was urging me. Other people might be angry that their record company didn't give a shit about whether they had a record out, but I am very happy Epic didn't because that would have just made me go away and not want to do any of it. If people were like, "You gotta come out with something," it'd be like telling me to take a shit. Even if you tell me to, I can't. P4K: So what you're saying is that your music is shit. FA: That's my metaphor for the day. This is the stuff that I really needed to get out, this is the excrement of my life, the excrement I was trying to exorcise out of me.
