I think he's a better singer than Ewan but like, Ewan has the right personality for it full of hope and love, while this version came off as foreboding and depressing. I was prepared to like it but I just can't.

you're so right about the hope/love in ewan's voice, it's missing from this

This nails it. I couldn't put my finger on why it sounded off, but this is it exactly.

I just... don't feel the spark I did with Ewan's original. like, the movie version gave me chills throughout. this is like... okay.

maybe he's better live?

His live stuff is great, I have a few songs from his live album. I think this is just lacking a bit? I hope they rerecord for a cast album.

He obviously has a great voice but this feels so...empty. Like he’s singing about a piece of toasted white bread

Yeah, its kind of weird. The Ewan version had SO much feeling. This feels like a solo ensemble piece.

Moulin Rouge! changed my life when I saw it as a kid and it holds such a dear place in my soul, so I'm always nervous coming into comments or telling people it's my fave movie. I need to get over it lol. My heart hurts listening to this. :,)

I am right there with you! It is one of my all time favorite movies and I am so anxious that this show won’t hold a candle to it.

Perhaps, but then we will always have the movie! I remember as a teen a local movie theater used to do midnight shows of MR like Rocky Horror, and I'm so sad I never went to one.

omg bb i'm the same way!! when i was younger i would show it to people to be like WATCH THIS IT'S SO AMAZING and they'd talk through it or laugh when they shouldn't have, and since then i don't show it to anyone lol and i also shy away from telling people it's my favorite movie but it really got me through some tough times when i was younger, and it's so beautiful and sumptuous and is a constant inspiration to me tbh, i love it just as much now as i did then - possibly more tbh. sorry for the word vomit omg
