In general I hate when white women say “at least we have women represented!” when the only women represented are, you know, white.

The two mains are white when they weren’t in the book though, right? They need to let women of color lead some movies for once. I expected better from A24 but I shouldn’t have.

Anyway in general the sentiment “at least there are women” to justify poor casting is crappy, but her statement really was good without that last sentence.

But none of the actresses are at fault for this, and I am happy to support a female cast. I hope there was just as much female crew. They need parity in both. I just wish more studios understood that white women don’t need to be front and center to “sell” every movie.

Frankly, the onus is partially on the author of the book for not TELLING people. If they deviated from that, then at least they tried.
