People can argue that Ralph should've won for Schindler's List. But I really think Leo did a better job, and that was the bigger injustice.

I surprisingly agree with all of OP's choices! Good job!

Looking at the gif reminds me Kirsten never got an Oscar nomination for Melancholia (that year was a joke, Meryl won for Iron Lady)

but then LvT or any actually interesting director freaks out the old farts at the Academy so I'm not surprised. They're too snobby to award popular movies and too middlebrow to get the actually interesting stuff.

Don't forget that two of Lars's leading ladies have been nommed for Oscars though! Wish Kirsten had been one of them.

Can't believe she is nomless, she has been doing stellar work for decades.

They haven't given an LvT film a nom for sth like 15 years tho, and ofc even if Kiki had an outside chance Lars shot it in the foot with his Nazi comments. Ah, well. At least Cannes recognised what the Oscars won't.

I really feel like Oscars are more a matter of image/publicity than actual performance, and Kirsten's nomless status is ok by me since she's not chasing Oscar bait anyway, it's not a reflection on her talent.

i will always believe that heath ledger only won for the joker was because it was his last full film performance
he absolutly deserved to win but if he had not died there was no way the oscars would have even nominated him because they don't like superhero movies
again he totally deserved his oscar

I totally on agree on both points. He wouldn't have gotten it because of the genre, but he also totally deserved it...He would have deserved it as well for Brokeback Mountain, but he was phenomenal as the Joker

Yeah, I always thought the same. I wish they would recognize other genres more.

The Academy loves to do this shit all the time: they give the Oscar to someone because "they're overdue" instead of when they truly deserve it.

i hate that shit so much

I hate that too, but at the same time, I feel like they too often give someone an Oscar over one good performance and then their careers go nowhere after that.
