"But to say there were no Asians in the struggle is just wrong. I know that these people exist." ..but does it have to come at the erasure of black women?

as a south asian woman, i was so excited to see frieda in this. but not on these terms. i'm still torn on whether i'm going to watch this or not..

As someone that's both Black and Indian it's really disappointing (but not surprising) that she doesn't get it. Ugh.

a lot of south asians have bought into the model minority myth and really throw black people under the bus. so i'm not surprised if a south asian actress states that her casting is "enough".

I'm riding with Elizabeth Obi on this, she was a member of the British Black Panther movement.

"Aside from Jas, the portrayal of black women in the first episode was unforgivable, as they are represented solely by Wunmi Mosaku’s character Kenya, a sex worker whose clients include the police inspector Pence. Historically women were the backbone of the black movement: Althea Jones-Lecointe, Barbara Beese, Leila Hassan, Olive Morris, Beverley Bryan and Stella Dadzie, to name but a few, and I can only hope this is reflected in future episodes.

What can activists today take from the series? Not much, I fear. After the first episode, I felt the story was becoming reminiscent of Bonnie and Clyde.

The picture of her face superimposed onto the Power To The People image of a Black woman is so messed up.

"It’s starting a conversation" is the go-to comment for every person in Hollywood who steals a role from a black woman and erasing them from history.
