"her prop knife got switched out and they handed her a real knife"
god i always worry that someone could switch out a prop gun with a real one if they have something against an actor in a movie. who would even notice since props are so realistic...
if it's a gun they HAVE to tell the cast and crew and everyone and always check since what happened to Brandon Lee :( but some idiots still use blunts or BB guns jfc. if it's melee they don't say shit to the actors basically and it's awful. the crew and extras know just in case anything happens but some psycho directors like the expressions or whatever when they don't know it's real
I've seen it happen with a table before, there was some really fake looking ones that they threw the stunt double then actor into but then the final shot they replaced it with a real table and threw the actor onto it 😵
I haaate when they switch props without telling the actors and no, it wouldn't be her fault be how would Frieda know?? if it's been like a 12 hour shoot or whatever she's not gonna check every time they hand her the prop.
I've used a real knife before on stage bc the only toy ones they sell nowadays are large pirate swords... but I covered it in tape so it was blunt, the whole time my lecturer thought it was fake and we just didn't say anything so nobody lied tbh, but it was hilarious when the guy getting stabbed knew and the lecturer had to show us how to REALLY stab him to look convincing with it, lmfao. the guy was high out his mind too I thought he was gonna piss himself
2 kids had their throats slit in a high school production of Sweeney Todd using a filed down, taped, foamed, and papered real knife/razor (they lived though). I would "Nope" right out of there if someone tried to talk me into using a real knife no matter how "covered" lol
i don't understand how it'd be the actors' fault at all. they're doing a scene under the assumption it's a prop, which is not their responsability. and if you work with props it's your job to tell them when it's fake or real
This is not comparable of course, but aside from the tragic Brandon Lee incident, I think about the guitar scene as well from Hateful Eight where Kurt Russell had no idea that the prop guitar was the genuine 145-year old six-string guitar. Jennifer knew about it and that's what evoked that genuine response.
I just can't fathom how they'd place the blame on an actor for these type of situations, especially if it involved harming another actor or even resulting in their death.
