- Cesar Awards (the French equivalent of the Oscars) announced that Roman Polanski will serve as president for its ceremony next month

- As the president of ceremonies, the child rapist/international fugitive will deliver opening and closing speeches and preside over the event

- Polanski is still wanted by the U.S. after pleading guilty to raping a 13-year-old girl. France does not have an extradition agreement with the U.S.

- The French women's rights minister has criticized the decision as “surprising and shocking," but the culture minister has defended the pick: “The case will continue to haunt Roman Polanski the rest of his life,” she said. “But he nevertheless remains a filmmaker of great talent who has since been honored with multiple Cesars. This is what is at issue in the choice made by the Academy."

- French feminist group d’Osez le Feminisme has already announced a protest at the ceremony. You can sign an online petition here and follow the case on #BoycottCesar

- A friendly reminder that many ONTD faves supported Polanski in a petition
