Joshua Lodge, 18, denies sexual activity with a child, alleged to have happened last September.
He was accompanied to the 15-minute hearing at St Albans Crown Court in Herts by his parents.
Lodge spoke only to confirm his name and enter a not guilty plea to the charge.
The case was adjourned until September 3 and Lodge, of Hertford, was released on conditional bail.
His mother insisted her son was innocent.
She said she “felt sorry” for Rupert, who plays wizard Harry Potter’s sidekick Ron Weasley in the hit movies.
She added: “He and Josh were best friends but now that’s been ruined.”
Rupert landed the role of Ron Weasley at the age of 11 after watching an appeal for people to play Harry Potter’s sidekick on BBC’s Newsround.
He impressed selectors by wearing a skirt for an impersonation of one of his female teachers.
Alcohol + teenage boys + teenage girls + raging hormones is never a good combination.
