okay i was really looking forward to this film..but i found it so disgusting to watch. i actually left the theatre pissed off but i dont know what i was expecting with paul verhoeven.
not trying to be snarky but im legitimately interested in why you're rooting for elle

it's super hard to watch and i have no plans on ever doing it again. or at least not any time soon. i didn't have a lot of hopes bc i'm not that big on verhoeven but i thought it was really well constructed in terms of script, directing and editing. it kept me on edge the whole time. mostly tho... it was all huppert. it would still have been strong without her but she made it, sold it and carried it for me you know. i don't understand or agree w/ her character at all but i was so intrigued and fascinated by her and her story. i still have so many questions regarding her and her motives. it's disgusting and brutal but it compelled me. my friends and i discussed it for days after seeing it and idk i think that's one of the things that make a movie great to me

tl;dr oop hope it made sense

This thread is interesting because my theatre (and I) really enjoyed Elle... like we were laughing at parts. It was amusingly absurd but as you said, Isabelle fucking sold it.

No @ Ryan Gosling. He could not hold a note in that movie. Nor could Emma, but she's more tolerable.

This excess love for La La Land makes 0 sense to me. It wasn't THAT good.

i felt like the movie didn't really handle the tragic parts of the story very well. like even the scene where michelle williams is getting put into the ambulance and the paramedics were struggling to get the gurney inside seemed absurdly comical
