ONTD Original: 15 Albums that will be 10 years old in 2017
Dec 27, 2016 19:18
As the last few days of this year from hell go by, let's take a moment to recognize these iconic albums that will be turning 10 next year and reminisce about a time when the idea of Trump being the president was laughable.
Timbaland - Shock Value February 4, 2007
After producing great albums in 2006 such as Loose and FutureSex/LoveSounds, Timbaland decided to release an album of his own featuring many artists that were big during that year such as Fall Out Boy, Nicole Scherzinger, Nelly Furtado and Justin Timberlake. He also introduced us to Ryan Tedder's band OneRepublic and Keri Hilson (people in 2016: who???).
Fall Out Boy - Infinity On High February 6, 2007
Less than two years after their breakthrough album, From Under the Cork Tree, Fall Out Boy released their follow up with a Jay-Z intro and Babyface as producer on a couple songs. An odd choice for a pop punk band. I remember downloading a radio rip of the first single "This Ain't a Scene, It's an Arms Race" on Limewire and being like WTF at the intro at first but quickly got into it. Definitely one of my fav albums from 2007.
Hilary Duff - Dignity March 21, 2007
After years of being the Disney queen and dating the Good Charlotte frontman, Joel Madden, Duff decided to make a more mature album and it delivered. It was her last album until 2015 and most of ONTD would consider it her best.
Avril Lavigne - The Best Damn Thing April 17, 2007
Around 2006, Avril branched off from music, did some modeling, some voice acting and got married to Deryck Whibley from Sum 41. She was growing up. Then 2007 came and she released the single "Girlfriend". Gone were the ties and baggy pants and in were shorts, fishnets and bad dancing. Her albums released since then have pretty much been the same as this one, sound wise, which is unfortunate for fans of her first two albums but good news! Avril will be releasing a new album in 2017.
Feist - The Reminder April 23, 2007
Remember that 1,2,3,4 song that always played in that iPod commercial? Yeah that was Feist. This album was a pretty big deal in 2007 and was the best selling album on iTunes that year. Other known songs on it include "My Moon My Man" and "I Feel it All". Feist released another album in 2011 but no1curred then.
Linkin Park - Minutes to Midnight May 15, 2007
After years of owning the nu metal genre, Linkin Park came back with an album more fitting with mainstream rock at the time. The first single, "What I've Done" was released and was featured on the first Transformers soundtrack (they've gone on to be featured on two more Transformers soundtracks). Another song of theirs, "Leave Out All the Rest" was on the Twilight soundtrack.
Maroon 5 - It Won't Be Soon Before Long May 22, 2007
Believe it or not, it had been 5 years since Adam Levine & the (who?) Maroons released an album. This album had a more electronic and dance influence than it's predecessor, Songs About Jane. Pretty much every album of theirs since has been the same."Wake Up Call" was good though.
Tokio Hotel - Scream June 4, 2006
A rock band from Germany that seemed to blow up out of nowhere with their singles "Ready Set Go" and "Monsoon" and their androgynous lead singer, Bill Kaulitz with hair that could rival most 80s bands.
Rihanna - Good Girl Gone Bad June 5, 2007
This is the album that made Rihanna the icon she is now. After hits such as "Pon de Replay" and S.O.S.", most people expected her to fade away or at most have a Ciara level career. But this album changed everything. From the haircut that every soccer mom copied to the bops "Umbrella", "Don't Stop the Music" and more.
Paramore - Riot! June 12, 2007
Before the emo era was over and they lost half the band, Paramore released their breakthrough album, Riot! and gave us the mean girl anthem (arguably slut-shamey), "Misery Business" and filled the void that Avril left behind in the pop rock world. They are currently recording an album with ex-drummer Zac Farro kind of, sort of back in the band.
Sean Kingston - Sean Kingston July 31, 2007
One of 2007's breakout artists was a 17 year old from Jamaica named Sean Kingston (real name: Kisean Anderson). Pop and reggae blended into hits like "Beautiful Girls" and "Take You There".
Jonas Brothers - Jonas Brothers August 7, 2007
Now it's time to really feel old. The Jonas Brothers' self titled album is turning 10. Now back in the day, I "hated" the Jonas Brothers but secretly liked some of their songs (I was 15 and in my emo phase, give me a break). With songs like "S.O.S." and "When You Look Me in the Eyes" playing all the time on Disney channel and their purity rings, most girls under the age of 20 were obsessed with the Jobros. Then Bieber and 1D came along and stole the show. Nick is now solo and Joe tried going solo and flopped and is now in DNCE. Kevin is a stay-at-home dad now, I guess.
Kanye West - Graduation September 14, 2007
Before Taylor-gate and marrying Kim Kardashian, Kanye released one of his best albums in 2007. Sampling Daft Punk and creating the bop, "Stronger" and completing his trilogy of albums starting with College Dropout and Late Registration.
Radiohead - In Rainbows October 10, 2007
This album was iconic in that it was one of the first albums by a major artist to be released through a website that allowed you to PWYW (Pay-What-You-Want) from $0 and up. The first song on the album, "15 Step" was used in the credits for the movie, Twilight.
Britney Spears - Blackout October 30, 2007
Come on. You knew this one was coming. After a breakdown and a head shaving, nobody knew what to expect from Britney's new album. The expectations were fairly low after that infamous VMA performance... but in the end, the album turned out great.
