Did the car roll down a hill? In any case, I always thought it was common sense to make sure your parking breaks are on before exiting a car.

The car had a defect that made it roll back even when put in park.

I'm not sure that's correct. I think the issue with these vehicles is that the gear shift doesn't clearly show what gear it is in because it always returns to a central position? That's why they were telling people, until they had a good fix, to make sure the parking brake was engaged.

the model that he had has a gear that makes it confusing to tell if the car is in neutral and not parked, he more than likely thought it was parked
