Hopefully people will stop bitching about Sam as things progress and we get to see more of his backstory and motivations. I thought it was pretty obvious from the episode that he was very much not okay and hitting the dog was the straw that broke the proverbial camel's back, but it seems like a lot of people are reading it as him just being like "WELP, DEAN'S GONE. GOODBYE DEAN. *gets girlfriend*" I think everyone is forgetting that we as an audience know that Dean and Cas are in Purgatory, but Sam had no idea at all where they went, and really didn't have a whole hell of a lot of resources for finding out. I don't even know where he would have started, honestly. And I also think it says something about Sam's growth as a character that he quit hunting - he's done the scarily determined hunter when he's without his brother before and it never turned out well (and, well, what would his motivation to continue have been, really

I'm so proud of Sam for actually trying to move on instead of getting stuck in an endless, fruitless quest for vengeance or resurrection. I doubt Dean would have been able to do the same - I'd like him to be able to, someday. Both of them quitting, or at least retiring and working as a contact connecting hunters with jobs or something would be a great way to end the series, in my opinion. But I digress. People started wanking about this the moment it was even slightly spoiled and many of them didn't bother thinking beyond their original perceptions when they watched the episode. Fandom disappoints me some days. :/
The way he stood against the tree with his foot up was a little bit staged. XD Other than that, I'm enjoying him.
I am super proud of Sam, too! And I can totally get where Dean is coming from with the bitterness, but I think if he weren't having some epic PTSD of his own at the moment, he'd probably be able to appreciate it, too. I would love for them to actually be able to retire at the end of the series. Lord knows they deserve a break. Hopefully people will chill out a bit once we get a few more episodes into things and see where they take us. I think you're right and that a lot of people came in with ideas about how things should go already in place and didn't really look beyond them. I may have to start avoiding Tumblr on Supernatural nights to save myself endless disappointment and frustration. Lol.
Yeah, I'm also a bit bothered that his actor has been on the show before. They usually don't recycle actors for roles that are more than a one-off. But the character himself is pretty enjoyable thus far, and I do like his actor!
ugh, I loved it SO MUCH. I totally agree about the fridged girlfriend and the weird conversation at the college re: Asians, but those were my only complaints about it. It was well-layered, everything made sense, it was funny, and I am soooo intrigued.
While I get people saying they find the storyline odd, I don't get the criticism of Sam himself. He's got PTSD just as bad as Dean, he's just expressing it differently. That's why he was so upset by the dog; he'd lost so much that he could not handle any other loss, even of just a dog. The line about "you're a vet, you fix animals, fix this animal" was getting laughed at for being melodramatic but... it's Sam yelling at HIMSELF for not being able to do HIS job saving people.
(Also Dean running through Purgatory killing everyone that won't tell him where his boyfriend was oh my goD?D?????)
