ONTD party time!Say what you will about ONTD's hive-mind and rude behavior, but the "writer" BAWWWWWWing is very clearly in the wrong here, and I see no way she'll ever fess up and apologize for misreading the situation. The ONTD article that wasn't up to her citation standards (though her site was in fact linked) was deleted before a mod got a ( Read more... )

On one hand, ick, ONTD, you didn't quite handle that like I would have liked. I can get why she kinda blew up, because she sounds stressed to hell. I know I'd probably have done the same, if I was in her position. But anyone who deals with ONTD should realize ONTD is...how to put this without sounding like a bitch...ONTD is kinda a perfect example of the stupidity(irresponsibility?) that happens on the internet when you have anonymity. You put that many people together gossiping about stuff, and you're gonna lose a lot that RL society wouldn't stand for by the wayside. It's expected of a place like that, to me, at least. She went to the "responsible adults" (Jezebel, in this case) and got them to cite to her, which, if I was her, was all I would have expected anyone to do. But she just didn't have a grasp of how ONTD works, and therefore got caught up in her anger and kinda turned into what she was hating.

IDK. Internets, I love to try to puzzle you out, but sometimes, there's no accounting for you.

There are plenty of examples of ONTD being horrible and in the wrong, but I really don't think this is one of them. I have to go rn, so I'll come back and say more later.

I wouldn't say they were in the wrong, really; they were doing what they always do, and she misinterpreted the situation because she didn't understand ONTD and blew up over it. I guess that's the less rambly/less confusing version of my first comment?

She got all fired up when Jezebel credited ONTD as the source, and when they fixed their mistake, she turned her misplaced anger on ONTD, throwing around words like plagiarism and misogyny. She acted like some of the worst ONTDers, all while calling herself mature. That is what I don't like.

All of this aside, if all she wanted was not to have her article up without what she considered proper credit, then she should have stopped after the article was deleted (which wasn't by brenden, who never saw the article until it was already deleted). That she only started up this shitstorm after the fact is very telling.
