Miracle Day ramblesveritas6_5July 14 2011, 23:45:22 UTC
I am so glad to hear that SOMEONE in the TW universe is not so fed up with RTD that they are not vowing to boycott Miracle Day. I didn't think the first episode was any great shakes, but I understand too that a new audience might not know these characters the way we do. I too will be watching the whole series.

I will watch Torchwood as long as JB is in it. I watch all his shows, even Tonight's the Night, which is definitely not my usual sort of program.
Although I do think that RTD cynically killed off Ianto in an attempt to make the show more saleable to the USA, that is not JB's fault. And it doesn't mean that RTD will do a bad job of Miracle Day. I have hope that it will be a great series and that Torchwood will carry on, at least until JB gets so old that there's no way anyone can believe he's a non-ageing immortal.
I actually considered the possibility that someone had found a way to siphon off Jack's immortality to give it to everyone else, but I decided that was unlikely since he usually dies and then heals, and they are doing neither. Still, it is an interesting approach for a single story. As long as RTD restores Jack's immortality by the end of MD, I will be ok with it. If he kills Jack off, or makes him truly mortal, I will never forgive him. Jack makes Torchwood, and the immortality is what makes him such a unique and interesting character.
Is the non-healing until he dies thing definite, or were they very vague about it before in canon ? I know I was uncertain about that when writing Hidden Behind Our Appearances, so made my own assumption i.e. he does not heal unless he dies.
The worst case scenario in Miracle Day is if RTD uses it to get rid of Jack and Gwen and launch a new, wholly US Torchwood.
I believe the usual interpretation is that he always heals faster than a normal person, but he heals MUCH faster when coming back to life. As we saw in COE, he regenerated from a "bag of bits" and grew back so fast they could SEE it happening. I always wanted to read a story where that happened where the team could see it. I'd love to see their reactions to watching bones grow out then be covered with muscles, tendons, and meat, and finally with skin and hair. There would have to be a fairly emotional reaction, don't you think? And as far as I am concerned, if Jack Harkness isn't there or isn't immortal, then it ISN'T Torchwood!
Yes I agree with you, i had much the same idea in terms of a story. Jack is now mortal and is intent on killing himself, is talked out of it only becuase there is this mystery to solve but they have to watch and argue with him the entire time.
If he becomes immortal he can then get all angry at those who stopped hime becaust it was his only chance.
There would be lots of angst opportunities in it. Jack about to die, he and Gwen thinking it would be permanent, then loads more angst when he wakes up and realises it didn't work.
I'm enjoying Miracle Day. I know people are saying it's been Americanized buy I really don't see it. Don't see RTD killing off Captn Jack, because he's the draw of the show and no matter how good Gwen is the character is not strong enough to carry the entire show.
