They died when we saw (or didn't see) them die. In the immortal words (lol) of Desmond David Hume: it's all bloody real! Everything that happened on the island really happened, including S6. Only the sideways world was an in-between their earthly lives and what lies beyond.
That's definitely possible, and would legitimize spending a whole episode devoted to Jacob and MiB.
I'm just glad there's people that don't think they were dead the whole time. Some of my friends believe that and they're the type that make it very difficult to have an intellectual conversation with.
I am positive they all didn't die on the crash. They died the moment we saw them die, each one of them. And those that we didn't see, I mean Kate, Sawyer & Claire (I don't mention Miles, Lapidus and Richard because as I recall they weren't in the church in the last scene), they died afterwards, not in their flight to LA. They lived the rest of their lives as normally as possible and probably died lying in their bed, as if they were the most common people in this world. This, I didn't like. I wished they showed us at least them getting home. It was a very 'open' finale. But I guess the reason why they didn't show us was because it didn't matter. Because they didn't spend the rest of their lives with the people that really mattered. And then, I don't like the purgatory thing. It's too easy to say that people will be happy and together in the afterlife. Sounds too religious to me. It's true, Lost has always been about religion, but I wanted them to be granted happiness in their real life.
i'm not a big fan of the flash sideways only being a creation out of the survivor's minds, because it doesn't seem fair to me. maybe their lives aren't all perfect in the flash sideways, but most of them are a hell of a lot better than before. this, i think, they deserve. so then i want it to be real. but then for desmond to come around and enlighten them-- i feel like you could only do that and "remember" if you also were living and present in this life too
( ... )
I'm glad that we agree on that. I was feeling lonely with everyone writing everywhere 'oh i'm so glad! that just fits! thanks lost' and so on. I was feeling, like, guilty for not liking it.
