The Minamoto family are also known as Genji and the Taira family are also known as Heike. The names are used interchangeably.
Mononoke (like Kage and Hiyori) are supposed to be genderless. I've used male pronouns for them simply because the actors are male.
Some of the names of the powers are not proper words so I've just used the most likely readings and could be wrong on how they are said.]
Minamoto no Yoshitsune: GACKT
27 years old. The ninth child of the late Minamoto no Yoshitomo. He killed his close friend Yoshinaka with his own hands and because of this, something dormant has awoken inside him and resulted in his changed appearance. Benkei had imprisoned the power 'hyakki [literally 100 demons]' inside of Yoshitsune, and Yoshitsune is scared that this power will be released again and hurt other people.
Taira no Noritsune: Yumi Hiro
26 years old. Nephew of Taira no Kiyomori and is known as Nori by his close friends. Despite his beautiful face and tall and slender body, Noritsune is the fiercest fighter of the Taira clan and is called the demon of the Taira. Among the Taira clan, he is the only one to have the power of 'chimu [precognitive dreams]' and he uses this skill to guide the Taira clan to victory. His cousin is Tomomori, who he adores like a brother, and he is a pillar of the Taira clan. His strength and faith transcends gender and brings people together.
Taira no Tomomori: Kawasaki Mayo
34 years old. The fourth son of the late Taira no Kiyomori and he possess a sharp and brilliant mind. He is the leader of the Taira. Although his calm personality differs from the aggression of his family, among the Taira family he is the most reliable mononofu. If he touches someone's face with his hand, he is able to read their mind and he can use his power of 'shinyomi [mind reading]' to manipulate.
Genji [Minamoto allies]
Musashibo Benkei: Furumoto Shinnosuke
One of Yoshitsune's big four. He excels in magic. His unique fighting skill is the ability to display 'gouriki' - the power of herculean strength that is many times over the strength of any person. Although you'd expect him to have an aggressive personality, he is tender-hearted and has deep emotions. He is the person who trapped the power of 'hyakki' inside Yoshitsune. He is the owner of a warm heart and is always joking.
Ise Saburou: Uda Takaki
One of Yoshitsune's big four. If he places his hand over the wound of another person, he can heal it - this is his power. He also has the power of 'hanami' and can make flowers and blossoms bloom in an instant. He is emotional and has a warm heart. He judges everything in a calm way. He is the leader of Yoshitsune's big four. Like Yoshitsune, he hates discrimination of people.
Satou Tsugunobu: Nishiumi Kenjirou
One of Yoshitsune's big four. He is a devoted big brother. A general of the army in Tohoku [a region in the north of Japan], he is a mononofu that was utilised by Fujiwara no Hidehira. His power is 'kashu', and he can freely create fire with his hands and manipulate it. He was sent to monitor and spy on Yoshitsune by the Fujiwara clan, but without noticing he became close to Yoshitsune and then swore a vow to Yoshitsune to share his fate. He is always joking and fights in unison with his brother.
Satou Tadanobu: Kodo Taya
He always wants to be with his brother and because of this and his nervous personality, sometimes his anxiety can be seen. He has the power of 'hyoute', and when he uses this he can cause hail to appear. He has a gentleness that can instantly open the hearts of anyone.
Kage
Although Kage squandered his life protecting Yoshitsune in a battle with En, his spirit continues to follow and worry about Yoshitsune.
Minamoto no Yoritomo: Oohashi Gorou
He is the legitimate successor of the Minamoto family and after the death of his father, Minamoto no Yoshitomo, he became leader. His reason for living is to restore the Genji period, end the Taira clan and sweep clean the Genji of all but the mononofu. As his suspicion of other people is strong, he hates interacting with anyone other than his closest allies. He has the power of 'shinshoku', and can enter people's minds at will, leaving behind thoughts and manipulating them. He feels the traces of the personality of his and Yoshitune's father and flatters nobody. At first he favoured the innocent Yoshitsune, but began to fear him and ordered the entire country to attack Yoshitsune.
Houjou Masako: Suzuka Nana
She is member of the Houjou family and inherited their blood and power. She has exceedingly high abilities. She is the wife of Yoritomo and has forged a deep bond between the Minamoto and Houjou families with her great intellect. Her momonofu power is 'shingan [the mind's eye]' and she also has the power of 'yumemi' which allows her to see people's futures. As even with her powers she can't assess Yoshitsune's mononofu powers, she hates him. She also excels at magic and summoning.
Kajiwara Kagetoki: Kinoshita Seiji
Originally a commander for the Taira family, at the Battle of Ishibashiyama he released Minamoto no Yoritomo becoming a close ally of Yoritomo and is now a part of the Minamoto government. He has the power of 'shinmei', which causes confusion and disorder in the minds of others.
En
A mononoke that Yoshinaka summoned in exchange for his life. En is a special mononoke and has no physical form. When En and Kage simultaneously struck each other, the form was erased.
Taira side
Dennai Noriyoshi: Suzunosuke [on the MOON SAGA OHP this character's name is listed as Taguchi no Noriyoshi]
Although he is not part of the Taira family, he is a mononofu that is completely trusted by Taira no Tomomori and Taira no Noritsune. He has the power of 'fuuryoku', meaning that if he touches somebody he can completely immobilize them and their power. Because he has the power of supression, he can stop the pain of Noritsune's power and allow him to sleep peacefully. He is the childhood friend of Ise Saburou.
Kikkoumaru: Horie Shinya
A mononoke protege of the Taira family. He is of low intelligence but has high fighting ability. He deeply loves Noritsune. He has an innocent but warmongering personality. He has the power of 'kongou' and can instantly turn his body into steel.
Ginroumaru: Kimisawa Yuki
A mononoke protege of the Taira family. Although he is friends and playful with Kikkoumaru, his calm personality is a complete contrast. He is also greatly attached to Tomomori. His power is 'kairai' and he can stop and manipulate the movements of other people.
Taira no Monemori
As the oldest brother of the Taira family he has the real power, but as he has great trust in Tomomori, he leaves the politics and rule to Tomomori. His spirit is weak and he is a fickle person.
