I was kinda raised the same way, but it was dad in front, then me and mom. but instead of it being ME that was protected in the middle, it was actually mom being protected x2, lol.

whoever went through dad had to get through me to get to mama. no one ever got past dad while he was alive. no one has gotten past me since then:P

sis' family is more like what you described with your son and gma. if sis is somewhere dangerous, her husband walks in front, and her son walks behind her.

on another note...when it's something like this, I don't mind the guy being/walking in front of a woman. but I have to say, men that insist that the woman walk behind him, and it's NOT out of concern for her safety...oh hell no. I raise all kinds of holy hell >.<

I didn't have a father growing up. It was always mom. So I'm use to having the female in front. I'm the type of person that is in the front. And its been like that since I was a teen. Not to mention I'm the strongest female in my family. So to have a man want to protect me and be in front, would be a change for me. And something I would need to get use to lol.

mm, my dad died when I was 11, and like you, I'm very much a 'in front' person, lol. my guy friends now, usually walk behind me, or waaay off to the side, so yeah...I know what you mean about having to get used to the protective guy thing XD;;
