[DISCUSSION] Gackt on 'Terry Ito's Howl at the Moon' w/English subs

Sep 18, 2011 09:08

Just found this on YT & haven't watched it, yet, but would like to share it nonetheless.
Since I don't know Japanese, I can't say how accurate the videos are. I'll probably comment on itself after having watched it in the comments...
Enjoy ^^

It baffles me when so many women agree with G's thinking. He's basically telling you what kind of woman you should be.. as if there is any one set way a woman (or a man for that matter) should be. Just because things were a certain way at one point doesn't mean that's how things SHOULD be. Society has changed, and those archaic traditions that G is holding onto don't fit in with the modern world anymore. It's not a man's job to protect and provide for a woman anymore. Even if you ideally like that sort of thing, you shouldn't ever tell a woman that she needs to be protected and provided for when she has the opportunity and strength to do it herself. It insinuates that she's not strong enough to take care of herself, which I would take as an insult ( ... )

And the most baffaling thing is he concludes so conciliatory even ready to exept womens "lead"... So what the hell was all that before for???

I just wan't to smack him on the head and say "stop being contradictory so I can agree OR disagree with you on this matter in peace!!";___;

Lol, thank you for understanding. I find him often to contradict what he says. @____@ I often find myself grinding my teeth in anger at some certain things he says, and then suddenly he says something so incredibly sweet and totally different from what he was saying before that it makes me feel utterly defeated. xD

Sometimes I wonder if his ideals are just so warped that they clash with each other. I'm sure they make sense in his mind though. ^^;

IKR?? And this interview is such a splendid example of that! And the most horrible part is that he somehow makes me feel guilty for being angry at him the moment before! It's such an emotional rollercoaster with him even with the distance of a fan!! I would seriously NEVER want to be in a relationship with him!!!XD

"I'm sure they make sense in his mind though." It obviously does!!!xDD I just wonder how!lol

Already said in on Twitter, saying it again: I don't get this whole anti-G thing when it comes to this and I agree with him. Period.

"I don't think Gackt is literally demanding all women to be one way or another" I think he doesn't either, not really...

But saying there are not many *ii onna" any more in this world and then saying how a "ii onna " is supposed to be? What are people supposed to think?? What am I supposed to think, since he somehow spread the definition on all the women!?? He's generalising way too much!!! Conflict is just bound to happen here!!

I think the male interviewer tried to give him a chance to explain this in context and he kind of blew it. They asked for an example of his "I like girls who just stop when I say stop and not ask why". (Although that is in quotes it is a paraphrase, sorry). He did say that he always has a reason that he can't always explain at the time. Regardless, his example sounded trite.... when we are going into a building and I say stop, wait, lets do something else. It was nebulous and seemed silly. Maybe he doesn't want to use too literal of an example because he doesn't want someone in his private life to feel singled out as being the example of what he doesn't like. But that's just me rationalizing. Although later as an example of what he did like he was very very specific.

He does generalize way too much and gets his own butt in trouble for it from those who want to take him at his literal word instead of rationalizing for him. There is too much inherent bias in our own rationalizations.

IKR? *sighs* And the course of all this fighting... Everyone is biased on his own...

What I always take away from when he expresses his take on relationships is that it comes down to trust and love, to me it's only natural to want to protect the ones you love. Even as a strong independent woman who doesn't NEED a man to protect her, it doesn't change the fact that, that is exactly the type of man I do want. I think what he is trying to say is that woman have become so independent nowadays that they have lost the vision of want it means to be part of something, to trust and be trusted.

LOL agreed TOTALLY. As a strong and completely independent woman who is married and enjoys her husband's respect and help but can take care of both herself and her son, i couldn't say better.
