Read Pat Barker's The Ghost Road. It's part of a trilogy but it's quite slashy in parts and the main character is bi-sexual. It's set in WW1 though.

I watched 'Land and Freedom' by Ken Loach recently, set during the Spanish civil war about a guy from Liverpool who goes to fight for the Socialists. I learned a lot from it and it's a fantastic film.

I'm looking forward to reading that book. I love war movies/books.

I've heard lots about Land and Freedom but i've never had the chance to see it. I'll buy the DVD bc I love historical films and I've just found out is one of my history teacher's favorite movies.

Central Station is Brazilian and is just one of the best movies I've seen ever.

As for slashy movies, I can only think of Y Tu Mama Tambien? XP

I can't find any info on Central Station =/

but Formula 17 does sound luke squee-able material.
