It's in the bag!

Here's a big "Har har" at my corny subject line.

Ya know, I like shopping at Whole Foods as often as we can afford to. We bring our reusable/recycled bags to do our shopping and feel oh-so-good about not using new bags. However, when we buy produce, what the heck do we put it in? A freakin' plastic bag! This really bothered me so I did a little ( Read more... )

You have a Buttonholer. I have one, and have never used it.

I pretty much taught myself how to use a sewing machine. Learning to sew on a machine is a lot like learning to drive.

You should totally sell those on etsy, once you get more of a hang of the machine. The cheaper stuff goes faster, and anything "green" is selling like hotcakes right now. If you screenprinted some hipster crap on them they would fly out of your house.

The bags I saw on Etsy were 4 bags for $16 or something crazy. From what D tells me, if we had a serger, we'd totally be in business. I do plan to practice and make them look nicer and be more sturdy, so perhaps I can sell some one day.

The best part of waking up is drinking coffee pooped by a cat!

Yes, I know, it's old. But I still like it.

I keep reading about this everywhere and I'm just, no. like ya know what, I'm sure it tastes fine and all but the closest thing to feces that's going in my mouth is magic mushrooms. and it's been a very long time.

It might be old, but I've never heard of it!

Celebrate the moments of your life.

i commend you on your green produce bags. i LOVE the idea. you should give it a try in 100% cotton, unbleached muslin: it'll be a little more sturdy than tulle (meaning you can toss it in the washer) and it's biodegradable. true, its not see through ... maybe there is some kind of 100% cotton net material that would work well ... just make sure you preshrink it before you sew on it.

I think muslin or cotton netting would be too heavy, since a lot of produce is sold by weight. I care about the environment, but I am also a cheapskate. ;)

The tulle is a great starting point for me, though I found it a little tricky to work with, being a newb and all. It seems that most sellers on Etsy use tulle/nylon mesh, and I suspect it is due to it being so light weight. Also, it needs to be see-through so the cashier can see the produce sticker to ring it up properly. Once I get the tulle mastered, I'll investigate other materials.

you make me want to take on more sewing projects...i love to sew, but have not replaced the sewing machine that went kaput in katrina...

we used to have that same exact coffee pot...it died...but, we usually go through about one coffee maker a year with jake making about two pots a day...somehow he kills them...

btw, i'm home today...Riley and Ronan have fever :(

Anytime you want to use my machine, have at it. It weighs a ton and is not very portable, but it does have a carrying case.

Once I started reading about how it died, I knew it was because Jake murdered it.
