If I buy a dress that is 2 sizes too big, can it still be tailored to fit me nicely? I am looking at a specific dress, and these types of dresses are always sized so odd. The material is satin, if that matters.
Hmmm.... To some extent the pattern might be able to mask the resizing, but I'd be worried about repositioning that detail closure on the one side, and the bustline might get wonky if you took it down two sizes. It's a tough call.
I'd say, if it's a fairly inexpensive dress and you can find a good seamstress to do it for pretty cheap then it might be worth a shot. (I would offer but I'd be afraid I'd fuck it up...I don't trust myself with altering pretty new things like that.) If it's pretty pricey already then I'd be more hesitant in case it doesn't work to alter it.
Thanks for the info. I think the waist will be okay, but the hips and bust will be too big. Social dresses always seem to be sized smaller so the dress shop can charge an arm and a leg for alterations.

I dunno, it might work, depending on the style of the dress.
