I don't know what the reference is, but you might find it on Google.
I'm frankly amazed at how productive you are. I really didn't have much - lots and lots of half-started, half-arsed drafts - on le thesis until this point in the year. I know yours is longer, but still. *impressed*
Heh, that's the one. I actually have the reference, but I'm just trying to figure out how to make it relevant to a novel that doesn't give a second thought to whether the AI is *actually* intelligent or not, while keeping myself under the banner of "literature/critical theory/cultural studies", rather than philosophy, which (all appearances to the contrary) I'm not actually supposed to be studying. :D
And I'm so not productive - I just whine a lot. *g* At the start of the year, my supervisor decided I should finish a chapter every five weeks, and it's good because it makes me do work, and I feel like I'm making progress, but there's going to be so much rewriting and drafting to do when I get the time that I'm not really sure how much progress I've actually made.
But thanks! I don't think anyone has ever called my study habits productive before... XD
Pffffft. Sounds productive to me. I didn't have a complete draft - and hadn't showed my supervisor anything - until about three weeks before it was due. And one lecturer said that a student he'd supervised didn't have anything until 36 hours before the due date. (Said student ended up at Princeton, in the end.)
You could always critique the novel because it doesn't address these (pretty important) issues. Anyway. Philosophy permeates everything!
Heh. 36 hours? I would be panicking so badly by then...
I don't think the novel wants to address those issues. It's basically a trash-pulp novel that's only interesting because of its surface texture. Meh. Philosophy isn't too bad... it's just that I'm not used to studying it, and it's hard work! I'm always totally in awe of people like you who seem to know so much about it. :)
Like the comment made above, I hadn't written hardly anything solid by this time in the year I did my thesis (and that was the most poorly formed sentence in the English language - apologies, but you get what I mean). You might not feel like you're living up to the unrealistic expectations set by your supervisor but you're still going great, and I bet you're miles ahead than the rest of the people in your honours class. You'll get it done, and it'll be great. That's pretty much a given.
Now come out and party with me in celebration of your forthcoming success!
Cab Noc? Dream is better than facing King St. What do you think? We can try and hassle a whole group into going - that way if it sucks at least we'll have people to talk to!
Ooh, totally. I hate King St... not to mention the clubs that happen to be on King St. We should give advance notice and *force* people to come along. It's been ages since we've been clubbing in a big group. :)
