Title: Twenty-Five Come sit on my couch
Spoilers: Season 4 finale
Summary: CJ finds it difficult to keep her feelings secret from Abbey
A/N: This is my first ever CJ/Abbey story. I have been a lurker in the fandom for well over a year and since I have been watching a lot of femslash recently (Olivia/Natalia Guiding Light) and loads of West Wing I wanted to write this.

Claudia Jean Cregg knew that what she was doing was ridiculous. She knew that there was nothing to be gained from giving voice to the thought that had been ruling her heart if not her head for the past four years. She was the White House Press, if she had learned anything from this experience its that once something is said it can’t be unsaid. This would change everything. That being said she isn’t deluding herself. She knows that she has the same odds of having romantic relationship with Abbey Bartlett as she is to fly to the moon tomorrow. The only problem is that no one seems to have told her heart.

Even will all of these thoughts spinning around inside of her head she can usually keep the idiotic urge to spill her most guarded secret to the most famous woman in America. Tonight however is not any other day. Today Abbey’s youngest daughter was kidnapped and this had caused the entire White House to stop what they were doing and focus on doing their best to find Zoë. Not fifteen minutes ago the First Lady was trying to get into the press room to appeal to whoever had taken to please just let her baby come home. To see her like that damn near broke CJ’s heart. What came after did.

She managed to convince the older woman to come sit on the couch in her office. Sitting there watching a woman who has survived almost losing a career she worked so hard to cultivate look so small and vulnerable. The doctor came in and spared CJ from making any ill judged declarations by the arrival of the doctor who gave the First Lady a mild sedative.

Curled up on the couch after having finally crying herself to sleep in CJ’s lap was when her resolve finally crumpled. After five years of CJ felt she had to tell her. Even if Abbey never knew she had be told. In this time of unbelievable sorrow and tragedy she wanted to be able to over the first lady some semblance of comfort. Given their position, CJ sitting upright on the sofa with Abbeys head in her lap she stroked her finger through soft brown hair spoke the words that haunted her in the middle of the night. "I love you, Abbey".
