This is a very good post. The writing, the character and the human scenario we've all lived, young and old. Who hasn't been given unsolicited advice? Who hasn't offered the same?
As a 49 year old man I find myself trying to pass on lessons I've learned, basic life wisdom. As a young man I recall ignoring the 49 yesr olds.
Me, I'm 39. I've never managed to gain any wisdom, and so I try not to give advice. I'm sometimes willing to ask for advice, but I do hate when it's just kind of tossed at me. Mostly I'm content learning (or not learning) from my own mistakes. Advice is tricky anyway. If you give good advice you prob'ly won't receive the appreciation you feel you deserve, and if you give bad advice you'll get more blame than you feel you deserve. I just try to stumble through without either.
I believe your mistakes are the source of wisdom. That being the case, I'm one bright fucker, a wizard of imperfection. Success is nice but lessons learned from our human flaws builds character... as long as we're able to admit we've screwed up and attempt to identify what we did wrong.
