It's cold in Ithica.

It does not effect Carlisle as he walks from the classroom where he has been teaching night courses in Anatomy and Physiology at the community college back to his car.

(He didn't see the student trying to catch him in the hallway to ask a question about the homework. Carlisle hasn't been all that observant of late.)

He missed her the first two times.

He didn't look up. She never expected him to.

The third time, she's formed literally out of the light from his headlights when he turns on his car. A girl with pigtail braids and loose gray sweatshirt, who could blend into every other student walking to cars, except for her face.

"Why are you here."

No hellos or how-are-you.

He turns his car off again, though.

It's a telltale sign.
The lights vanish, but she doesn't.
And all of her skin shimmers in the darkness.

She is the light that no darkness can shadow completely.

"Hello, Carlisle." Even in obvious distraction joy shines through.

She is rather hard to watch.

Through the windshield still. "Did you want a ride?"
