Gunslingers are individuals of a particular bloodline and calling, with an unearthly (although not supernatural) capability for violence. Their hands and eyes, in particular, are both fast and true, and although they show a wide variety of personalities, all of them contain a deep steely core and bitter resolve that comes through in a crisis. They tend to be natural leaders and diplomats, although they may not prefer that path.
A well-trained gunslinger can take in an entire room at a glance and analyze the tactical situation; see through illusions and absorb horrors that would shatter the minds of many normal folk; fight and win against impossible odds. They walk in the path of ka, the destiny prepared for them, and live in a weird half-world of mysticism and coincidence. The High Speech of Gilead, where the gunslinger line originated, is theirs to speak by rights.
Many gunslingers display minor or major psychic abilities, but rarely under their complete control--more of a miracle or haunting gift than a true talent. Visions, intuitions, foreboding, mindspeech and the ability to find or draw the people their ka requires are all common.
Their ka is to protect the structure that connects and upholds all worlds from the forces that would tear down the Tower of existence; they stand for justice and the protection of the weak, and will aid those who request it and agree to their conditions. The gunslinger bloodline began in the reality known as Mid-world, in the descendants of the great king Arthur Eld, but the Line of Eld runs through many worlds, and although the bloodline is often attenuated, true gunslingers are still sometimes born in many different worlds.
Some of them are drawn by their ka into the great battles, all unknowing; some of them have been trained by the remnants of Eld's line, establishing their own gunslinger tradition in our world, where they protect a rose of perfect beauty that symbolizes, protects, and embodies the multiverse.
