Background for the non-UK people: yesterday saw a lengthy demonstration take place outside of the Conservative HQ, protesting the planned rise of student university fees. In all fairness, plants and agents provacateurs are standard police policy with demonstrations, so it's possibly something was going on there.

Someone else actually said that to me elsewhere, but I'm not sure I really buy it. We've got a long history of student activism and student drunkenness - see c. 1990, which this event heavily echoes - and a 200% rise in tuition fees is certainly enough to spark sufficient bad feeling for something like this to happen.
