ORIGINAL VAMPIRES AND YOU

Elijah is what the series refers to as an "Original"! This means he was one of the first vampires, and seeing as such, he gets extra ... perks of sorts. So, let's play a fun game! I am going to copy-paste the list of general stuff about LJ Smith vampires that Stefan did, and then I'm going to cross out the stuff that is different for Elijah because he's an Original.

• Vampires can't sense other vampires.
• Vampires prefer alcohol and caffeine, because it warms them. Often referred to as their "life blood".
• Stake in the heart kills a vampire! A stake will incapacitate Elijah for a few hours, but then he'll come to and pull it right out. Only a very specific dagger made from a very specific tree can kill him, and he's currently in possession of that dagger. The downside is that if the dagger is removed from him? He comes back to life. Vampires can also be starved, but that doesn't make them dead.
• Vampires can't procreate.
• Can't walk in daylight! Elijah can due to his ring.
• A certain high pitch frequency can disable them. Whether this affects the Originals is unknown. I'm guessing "lol probably not."
• Vervain makes them weak is a mild annoyance and protects humans from their influence.
• They can compel people/animals (basically, hypnotism). Originals can compel other vampires and presumably supernatural types. See my fun notes below!
• The older the vampire, the more powerful he/she is. Elijah is super old. Guess how powerful he is. Just guess.
• Fire can also kill them! Elijah is fireproof. His suits are surprisingly durable as well. Awesome.
• Accelerated healing
• They do have reflections!
• They can sleep and dream.
• They are ridiculously strong and fast. Multiply that by twenty and you'd get close to an Original's power.
• They can influence other people's dreams
• They can be overly emotional.
• They need to be invited in.

ADDITIONAL ORIGINAL FACTOIDS:

• They come from an actual family: two parents and seven siblings. Elijah and Klaus are two of the seven. The entire family did not turn.
• Elijah's father sparked the war between vampires and werewolves that rages to this day.
• While a werewolf bite will normally kill a vampire, it won't kill an Original.
• The Originals were giant history trolls.

tl;dr, troll, kind of god-modey, but Elijah isn't a particularly threatening vampire unless he has a reason to be. He's a perfect gentleman for the most part! In any case, I am going to glance at Damon's handy poll over here for compulsion stuff. As for other vampires, things differ from canon to canon. If it ever comes up, I will just ask beforehand somehow. No big deal!
