Thinking about reasons is a good exercise. We need to understand ourselves in order stay grounded and honest.
Part of the reason I stopped weight training was the atmosphere of the UofM gym weight room. Weights feel so very good but there was definitely too much posturing. (Plus the gritty grotto was gross). I've never been to the UW gym so I'm not sure what it is like there.
I think it is good to cross the norms of gendered-behaviour when you feel it suits you.
A nice aspect of the UW gym is that it has big walls of windows on the south and east sides so it's really bright. I can look out the windows at trees when I'm lifting weights (although not when I'm on the cardio machines) which is really nice. I would have gone to the UM gym more if hadn't been quite so "gritty."
