untitled thanksgiving drabble

X-Files. 785 words. Takes place season seven? IDK, sometimes I fudge the whole notion of distinct time frames within the course of the show. Oh, and it's Thanksgiving-themed! From dorasolo's prompts: apple pie, a stalled car engine, and the phrase "you can't be serious."

( He’s sprawled out across his couch, his coffee table littered with boxes of Chinese take-out and shards of fortune cookies when his cell rings. )

Wait, why didn't I ever comment on this? I swear I read it when you posted it, but I seem to have neglected my commenting duties. FOR SHAME.

The sound of his own voice startles him and he realizes it’s the first word he’s spoken all day.
I love this. Love it. Lonely holiday Mulder.

He jumps out of his car wearing a thick red sweater under his leather jacket, plaid pajamas and basketball shoes.
Picturing this makes me wildly happy. Pajamas + coats + tennis shoes! It's one of my favorite combinations, because it means that someone had to leave RIGHT NOW, without bothering to pull some jeans on. And clearly, Scully calling for any reason at all is a LEAVE RIGHT NOW sort of situation.

Instead of a disjointed, distracted voice on Friday afternoon or two day old leftovers, he gets a fresh pie, his own Thanksgiving dinner, and her.
This makes me feel all goofy.

You should write more!

It's so funny you commented on this because I re-read it yesterday before I posted beacuse I totally forgot I ever wrote it and it actually made me wish I wrote more too! I think I could probably pull off writing more short things (about this length) but IDK what I was thinking taking on something long. I'm way too anal and nitpicky to not have it take up excessive amonts of time. Plus, I'm always terrified I will make longer things awful as time goes on, which is why I should probably just write my whole story at once then post. it THAT WOULD MAKE SENSE, WOULDN'T IT. Ugh, I'm so not cut out to be a ~writer of fic~.

And yes! I totally agree about the pajamas + coats + tennis shoes combination!

When I finally start up my S7 re-watch (seriously, it will happen one of these days, just don't know when) I'm sure the urge to write more little pieces will spring up. :)
