Oh man, that sounds like a bummer, although it's probably not a bad thing that you're a little more aware/wary of stuff like this. Definitely brings a new perspective to this game of ours ...?

I enjoy John King quite a bit, despite of myself. He is also a great translator, he takes charge of translating Ray Loriga from
Spanish to English and he does a great job.

My favourite sports book has to be Peace's "The Damned Utd" (OF COURSE!) but of the non-fiction kind I'm with you about Paul Tomkins and his awesomeness.

Ray Loriga is great. He writes these very youthful, very bizarre, very-Bukowski novels. I don't think there's anyone like him in Spain.

The Damned Utd is so awesome. You should listen to the audiobook. John Simm is the perfect Brian Clough. One of the football books I've enjoyed the most recently is Clough's biography "Provided you don't kiss me". It's a fascinating character.

I've also read a George Best bio lately but it was mainly crap so no rec there.
