The line between club owner and squad manager has been blurred for a wee while now, and it'd not a positive change. Seems it's due to the idea that football should be run like a business, indeed that it CAN be run like a business and that's the best way to run a football club.

Your point about fans is the most painful. I balked at my club's takeover even though it would've meant administration otherwise, but most other fans were wetting themselves at the idea of vast amounts of money to spend on players (wrong) which automatically means success (also wrong). The idea that you can buy success is becoming all-pervasive, as you say, it's difficult now for some fans not to expect success simply because the best ingredients are there. Every top chef fucks up a souffle every now and again, and god knows football is never that simple.

Unfortunately, it seems a lot of the old guard are fast losing interest in the game. :(
