I am not taking the assessment test for a number of reasons. 

• my checking account is overdrawn and I don't have money to pay for parking (sounds as stupid writing it as I thought it would.)
• I don't live in Riverside yet, so what if I have to get to class by 8am from Covina.
• I haven't changed my availability at work, so they could still schedule me on

You are not a failure. This is a logistical problem and will be handled. I agree with your assessment; this will give you more time to prepare for the assessment test.

There's no reason you have to take Summer School. In fact, it's easier starting in Fall for a number of reasons, plus it'll give you more time to prepare for the assessment test and get all your ducks in a row before you start school. Making the smart choice doesn't make you a failure.
