A Vote to Quit the Electoral College

I am not sure why this is a move to "quit the elecotral college"? It sounds like they are staying in the EC, but simply changing how they give out the votes. If 70% of Californians vote for candidate X yet candidates Y wins the national majority the below law would seem to completely disenfranchise Californians ( Read more... )

Uh, why don't we just try to get a constitutional amendment by using the never-before-used method of calling a convention? Heck, it might stray into some other interesting matters such as executive powers. Or make it so foreign-born citizens could run for President. Or, what would more likely happen, is that Congress would get off their ass when it was starting to look like a convention might actually be called.

This approach is a hack, and it has the potential to make the problems of elections much worse. Especially if the national vote count is in question (like, y'know, the last two presidential elections).
