IMPORTANT OEAM NEWS: If you have fic there that you want to save, I suggest that you nab it from the site by March 31. The host is changing PHP whatever that is and I am not sure we will have a site after that. I have no way to change or fix anything and frankly, no one uses the site anymore so if it goes down, I may just drop it. If it does not ( Read more... )

Oh gad! Have no idea what that is. What a shame if all that work moving everything were to be in vain. Not to mention losing all those classic stories. Have you checked with Tal? I do think it's a good idea to archive it on AO3, don't know what that entails.

I've sent her a message... the site may be salvageable - I just don't know at this time. I do still have a copy of the old site and I also have a copy of the new one... just no where to put them. We only have a few days... the old fic is safe right now on several external HDs at my house and my computer. If we can keep it going, I am going to see about having it all archived at Ao3 anyway. Though I do plan on keeping the domain for now, no matter what happens.

Echoing elfscribe and you, but a backup, if nothing else, at AO3 would be a very good idea

i'd also suggest a backup with AO3 regardless of what happens, just to be safe and keep it all available. So many archives have died, and this was the primary LotR slash space for so many years.

I don't know anything about PHP really, except that the SWG Archive also uses it.
I asked around on Discord and the opinion was that you're unlikely to lose actual text in the update, but that depending how old the earlier version of PHP is and exactly how it was written, sidebars and searches and such could be affected, only they won't necessarily be so.

AO3 Open Doors seemed to be able to act fairly quickly, in the case of HASA. They probably won't be affected by PHP issues in their upload, as they use their own software.

Sorry not to be able of help.

Good luck! I know nothing about the technical aspects. Agree that AO3 is a good backup, but would not want the site to disappear!

I'll keep my fingers crossed that it works!
