an update on my current projects & a teen wolf-y crisis of faith

We're closing in on the start of my personal fandom summer projects. Having missed the J2-SPN Big Bang, my personal highlight is going to be the Dean Cas Big Bang. I've gone back and looked at the kinds of work these Big Bangs have inspired and I'm floored. Consequentially I've been reading so much fanfic lately. Those wonderful, epic stories that ( Read more... )

I'm scared sometimes by the fact that I've only read about 2 actual published books for the last 2 years because I'm reading so much fanfic - but I agree, there is some absolutely excellent fanfic out there that is definitely more imaginative and better written than a lot of published novels.

Are you arting for Dean Cas BB? You could sign up to art for the SPN_gen Big Bang too - claims for that will start mid September I think. I'm writing and arting for that one.

oh cool (re: gen BB) - you might even pick my story to do art for, that would be exciting...

I'd love to do that!

Is it against the rules to ask a bit about your story? I'm not sure...

Sweetie, your opinion is not unpopular at all :) There is a large contingent of the TW fandom that isn't buying the Scott as True Alpha/Special Snowflake story arc. I gotta say, I like Scott's character a whole lot more this season but this One True Alpha thing just doesn't make sense. And there's absolutely no reason why Scott needs to be elevated at Derek's expense. Derek's had a tough go at being Alpha but that doesn't mean he won't reach a level of greatness that comes with having gone through a lot. Scott's still a teenager where the worse thing that has happened to him is that he was bitten by a werewolf. Stiles has gone through more trying times than Scott has. I'm not knocking Scott but, to me, there has to be more substance to his character before I'll buy that he's a True Alpha, a true leader.

I hope the show doesn't go too far in this direction as well. Derek will always be my true Alpha ♥

It's not unpopular? I honestly had no idea but have to admit that I'm pretty relieved. I was so confused since I kept telling myself that it makes no sense for the show to push True Alpha!Scott this aggressively while at the same time the showrunners just have to be aware of how popular Derek is.

However, there's one thing that's definitely going reeeeally well, and that's "Team Human", in my opinion.

'I gotta say, I like Scott's character a whole lot more this season...'
I'm admittedly still a bit torn here. While I don't hate him or anything like that, so far I feel he only really lights up in combination with Isaac (and vice versa, which is funny, because I'm not too much into either on their own. And no, I don't ship them. I merely think they play off each other really, really well).
What I do like about "new" Scott is his protective streak. The whole "I'm suddenly mature and do my word-a-day-thing"? It seems forced. Then again, I'm comparing poor Scott with the likes of Stiles and Lydia who are just...perfect ;)

I don't read much fanfic, but I can relate to this feeling of yours. I follow a lot of webcomics, and many of them seem to be better quality (in terms of story and art) than some of the professionally-published comics I read...

Sorry you've been feeling uninspired when it comes to Teen Wolf, but I agree, if you're just not motivated to make art for it, it's best not to force it. Hope you're able to have fun with the other Big Bangs you plan to participate in!

Oh, yes. You know, I also really like comics but sometimes I take a look at them and "Seriously? You pay people to produce this?"

It sometimes feels as if there's a generic formula that's being used again and again and again - plus some sort of this-isn't-actually-exciting cliffhanger and a dragged out plot. It's what got me off comics, to be honest.

...if you're just not motivated to make art for it, it's best not to force it.'
I won't. Art . for me - is supposed to be fun. Plus, it wouldn't be fair to the author if I'm not able to put in a 100% effort. I will, however, offer my services as an "art-beta".

I'll definitely have fun with the other Big Bangs. Next week is the big claiming week. I'm really excited :D

Have a lovely weekend :)
