I'm Back.

I'm back, after nearly two weeks in Chicago with my sister and her family. We had a good time, hanging out, going to Starbucks, going to White Castle (there aren't any in my neck of the woods), shopping for school supplies for my nephews, watching "You, Me and DuPree" (which isn't nearly as bad as the trailers would have you believe, not that it's ( Read more... )

If you converted a room of your house into a free-flight bird room, you'd have room for plenty of cockatiels. Even if you split the room into two sections.

Not that I'm trying to encourage you to buy more birds, of course. I'd never do that.

You know, I actually thought of that. I really did. But since the room can't be retrofitted with a tile floor with a big drain and the walls can't be hosed down, I regretfully decided against it. I'd have to be able to use a firehose on it regularly.

But it's a good idea.

And no one has to encourage me to buy more birds.

Oh, my dream bird room has a drain and can be hosed down, too. It's also soundproofed. And comes with cheerful little gnomes that will perform all of the cleaning for me.

Yes! And a misting system so that the birds can have a nice shower every day, and it washes the dust and some of the poop down the drain.

I wonder how much it would cost to build a room like that? We don't have room or money to do that, and it would remove the birds from the everyday life in the house, and that would be bad. I like their presence and their little voices in the morning.

But it would be cool to have a room like that, right from the git-go.

Since I was thinking about it, I dug up this article about the professor I mentioned. It was written after a fire, so it's not a completely happy article. I also apparently misrembered how many birds he owned; I forgot about the Galahs and the outside birds.
