# 63: The Dream Spheres (Songs & Swords, Book V) by Elaine Cunningham:

They rode to the City of the Dead, the vast walled garden where slept many, many generations of Waterdeep's folk, from the poorest commoner to the most fabled heroes of distant times. High walls surrounded the City, and guards stood watch at the fanciful iron gates. This ( Read more... )

Well, this thing with Arilynn and Danilo began oh, back in 1991 when Cunningham first started writing about them in Elfshadow, (book 2 of the Harpers series) then had them bopping all over Faerun for various foiling of evil. (The Harpers series ended with book 16.)

I think Elaith has hopped through a dozen Forgotten Realms series, himself, whether those are guest appearances or prolonged villainous brooding.

I'm curious to read this, if only because Waterdeep is my favorite places in the 'Realms. I think I have some catching up to do on my 'Realms reading first, though.

I knew there was a danger of not getting the--is that a Ghostbusters icon? A W E S O M E--whole story by, yes, jumping into a series at Book 5, but this was a book that fell into my lap through a box of free books, so what the hey ( ... )

I really liked Elfshadow and the others Harpers books in which they appeared. Elfshadow was all about Arilynn's very cool sword-- and her ancestral heritage. Starting there would be good.

That was the first book of Cunningham's I read. Sadly, I have not read her Windwalker series. I shall have to look those up.

Oh, I adore Skullport. Are you a D&D player, too? I love sending players into Undermountain. Myth Drannor is also tons of (very high-level) fun. I really like cities with strong personalities, too. Forests just don't have the same pull. I can imagine the trees and all, but... they're trees. Cities have architecture and historical buildings, alleys and hole-in-the-wall bars, all peopled with unique characters.

Yeah, it's hard to go wrong with a box of free books. If nothing else, you can catch some credits for BookMooch or PaperbackSwap.

Yes! Correctly identified icon! That's a great scene. :D

I'll pop Elfshadow on the list, then. Give it a whirl.

I love the hell out of Skullport, I really do. I used to play AD&D and Shadowrun, but not so much any more. Do you play?

Also, just for fun, I made a list of cityporn books. :)
