Free Comic Book Day

May 03, 2009 10:11

I was a little surprised when I saw people at scans_daily ver 2.0 saying that their local comic shops don't do anything for 'Free Comic Book Day.' Here in London the four major shops (and one anime/manga shop) make a HUGE deal of it. They actually created a 'passport' that you get stamped as you visit each shop and at the end of the day the fully ( Read more... )

I completely agree about Johns' take on Hal. I fear we may have to wait rely on other writers for that (like, say, Mark Waid's Hal in THE BRAVE AND THE BOLD as he tried to control himself around Supergirl).

And seconded on the final part + .gif. It's not an easy path to take, but it's the happier one in the long run, I think.

I don't think I really noticed the lack of general warmth to Johns' Hal until I started thinking about how he compared to Barry in Flash: Rebirth. Here's to hoping that Johns' releases his hold on the character (though I'd like to see him stick around on some level, I do like his plotting).

I think I'm a bit of a hypocrite when it comes to being a whiny and entitled fan. How often have I walked into a post BND Spider-man post with the sole intention of bitching? Of course I'd argue it's different because Spidey actually sucks now, but you can imagine how well THAT defense would go. Eh, I'm going to try to stick to being more positive (or at least more constructive than 'Blaaaaargh, this sucks')

Wow, that is a GREAT cover. Really I love the idea of firing a tiny man on an arrow at someone I dislike.

Also, I didn't know you were in England... although I think thats the 2nd time I've said this...

You think comic shops doing nothing for "Free Comic Book Day" is weird? Here, they don't even know FCBD exist at all.

Anyway, I so understand you about the whole "loving hated characters" thing. I seem to have the uncanny ability to always end up adoring characters that the rest of Fandom loathes. Jason Todd, of course. And Damian (he has finally grown on me). And Trish in Devil May Cry. And Ash in King of Fighters. And Joxer in Xena. And Kikyo in Inuyasha. And Silvia in Viewtiful Joe. And, you know that series I've just got into, Guilty Gear? There is this character I've started really loving, Ky Kiske. Turns out Ky bashing is the In Thing now, GG Forums are full of it. QUELLE SURPRISE!

Ha, well, I figured it was a North American thing, sometimes I take the international crowd on LJ for granted.

You liked Joxer? Wow! I kid, I kid, I actually found him tolerable, even likable towards the end there. I usually try to laugh the fan bashing off, but it can get kind of irritating. At least Urban Dictionary has some nice things to say about Ky;

1. Ky Kiske

A character from the Guilty Gear series, a bunch of videogames made by Sammy and Arc System Works. He uses a lightning elemental sword and is French in descent. Also very sexy. ^_~
Ky Kiske is the hottest blonde guy to ever appear in a videogame ever.

Even the haters can't deny the sexyiness of a priest in bondage gear :P

Well, ok, not a priest. A Christian Holy Paladin. Close enough.

But nobody will ever convince me that his coatless outfit wasn't at least inspired by bondage gear. Nevah! I mean, seriouslyhttp://i32.photobucket.com/albums/d31/JaneGray/Temp/gg_bible_p012-013_zer0kage.jpg... )
