Tempted by zippers; free bubble wrap and packing peanuts.

I nearly inquired into the availability of a lot of 6500 zippers today in a second-chance sale at an online donation-matching service (Excess Access). What saved me from this insanity? Said zippers are in San Francisco and they're local pickup only ( Read more... )

You do know I can locally pick up said zippers in San Francisco, right?

I like being your enabler. :)

Sending someone to pick up zippers sounds like a Sam and Max episode! Hee.

I inquired as to the lot's availability; it was listed a few months ago, so it may not still be available. If it is, I'll get in touch with you. Telepathically.

ETA 09SEP: Yeah, they aren't available. I got my money's worth in wondering what I'd do with them, anyway. (:

Vogon suggested I make an entire suit out of zippers.

Honestly, I don't know, but I can always find a use for zippers -- clothing, bags, pillowcases, whatever. I've seen small pouches made entirely out of zippers (MoMA Store, Uncommon Goods) but I'm not sure what I'd do with a little bag. I use hard plastic pods in my big purse (one for pens, one for first-aid items, etc.).

If nothing else, you can give zippers away as birthday and christmas presents! The idea of it cracks me up, since sewing is kind of a lost art form and most people don't do it anymore.

I always wanted to sew, but my junior high home ec teacher told me to stay away from sewing machines because I kept doing something wrong -- I forget what. It amuses me that she said that, but at the same time, what a crappy teacher to discourage your students!

Someone answered my Craiglist ad a few hours after I posted it and picked them up today. I should have deleted the ad as soon as he responded though, because I got another dozen responses overnight. Sheesh.
