My first novel...

Dec 24, 2006 02:09

I broke 20K words tonight... That puts me 1/5th of the way to a "standard" novel length and who knows where in this, my first full length work...

It's odd to be doing this for myself after the years of writing for other folks...

Dude, awesome!! So is it one of those things where once you get a ways in it gains a certain momentum, or is it still a struggle to get writing some days?

I'm still at the point of just getting ideas onto the page in prose format, so it's got a decent momentum... especially after what, a dozen years of thinking about it. As with Utopia, I expect the struggle to be tearing apart the rough draft to get to a first draft and the first to get to a second and so on. I've already completely changed the way I'm telling the story and had to throw away a bunch of stuff I wrote years ago.

Keep it going.

God knows I'm behind but you've kicked my ass into doing more before the end of the year.
(for the record I'm on about page 17)

17 pages is in no way insignificant....

So do you have a sense if this is going to be longer or shorter than a standard novel?

Congratulations! I've managed to get zero work done over the holidays; I applaud your tenacity.
