Mysterious iPods

Ok, I plugged my iPod into my Mac and after a few minute I noticed it wasn't mounted to my computer at all. Then I get a big error message that the computer cannot read my volume and I should look at it with Disk Utility. So that opens and I try to verify...error, "failure to exit" Now the last time I saw this message the iPod had disk failure
