I've been knocking my head trying to remember if there's a scene like that, but it just doesn't come to mind, although I'm beginning to remember the cat. (not his most memorable book for me, obviously) I don't think the cat dies. I could be wrong, but it doesn't seem like I remember a cat dying. King likes cats, btw.

Ok, that's good enough for me. The fact that all the people that I know that have read the book don't even -remember- a cat, means if the poor thing does die (and you're right, King likes cats, I forgot about that..) then it probably isn't heartwrenching. Although, it could mean it's -so- heartwrenching that y'all have blocked it from your memories and are going to need years of therapy to get over it now! ;) ;)

I'll continue to read the book now that I am fairly confident I'm not going to suddenly burst into tears. He can tug the strings when he wants to... The dog at the beginning of Duma Key (or the story "Memory"... whichever..)... that was rough. If it had been a cat... whew....

That would have been awful! Course, that poor dog getting it right away was the worst. There's not as much gore in the rest of Duma Key (although I've had a nonreading weekend, thanks to messing up the second sock and starting over and other things). I have like 100 pages to go and would love some quality reading time. I'm heading to a knitting circle meeting in a little bit and then I've got to head out and get gas and do some birthday and Valentine's Day shopping while I can without anyone around. I hope you like the rest of Cell.

I hope you're loving it as much as I did! :) I actually kind of liked the relative lack of gore in Duma Key. I've never been a big fan of gore anyway.. I just sort of put up with it, and skim when able. I thought Duma Key was a true, classic ghost story. I'm thinking of even lending it to my Father to read, just to check out King. He's not a horror novel person, but I think he might like DK.
