Yeah this is one of those conundrums. Fandom teaches us that the sucker punch is like the eternal high point, but at the same time to have a bunch in a row is so gimmicky? Sometimes there needs to be a let down to contrast what just happened, also for characters that are truly scary in order to humanize them?

Timeline Switch - This took me a minute to figure out and then my immediate thought was "Was Madara the obligatory female in the team?". SO SORRY. This is an awesome idea. Love the bit about Hashirama wanting to be free from conscience, especially when you consider what he had to do in the other timeline

Timeline--The whole premise was on Nth. We hypothesize Mito was the woman of the 3 man team, and the girl who nobody talked to and grew up to be beautiful and very neat and tidy (ok Tobirama used to try and talk to her in the library, but was awkward and tongue-tied). Madara just looks forward to working for the Uchiha Police force and Hashirama always wants wants wants.

Homesick--they are def. one of my favorites! Kisame has such an interesting story and backstory, fandom just doesn't love him because he isn't handsome :<

A myth that we come from land--the moon is dual both the Tsukyomi and how the moon controls the tide XD

Most of these are relatively old fandoms so you know, a comfortable place. Characters who have been thought over and turned over. Newer ones like Inception take time but that's how you get to Carnegie hall right? Haha sorry I just watched Inglorious Basterd's again. NOTES TAKEN, I will work with this :DDD

Who else would be on the team though? There are three contending males...

Other than Itachi and Konan, Kisame definitely seems to be the most caring of all the Akatsuki members (yet unlike the two of them, he was a villain to the very end). Nagato is too self-centered and the others don't even fit into the picture at all. I mean, Kisame killed himself to protect one of the secrets of someone who is more or less the dark lord of Narutoverse. How often do you see villains do that? THAT'S RIGHT. NOT VERY OFTEN.

The tide part went without saying, but I just wanted more. Ut was awesome.

I wrote HP 12 years ago. TWELVE YEARS AGO and I don't think I could ever go back. Just because it's old for me doesn't mean I'd be comfortable in it again. I almost never double-back on fandoms when it comes to writing fanfics, no matter how much I may still love them. I also just wrote fics for series I can't stand anymore, so I definitely wouldn't go back to those.

And trolllololololol Tool quote + Itachi just seems so....I'm not even sure.

HAHAHA Yes that is. Also they would probably exceed Kakashi very quickly and he'd just be turned in the dirt while Hashirama tried to clandestinely flip through his book without looking like he was looking at it. And Mito being happy she got to stand next to him and Madara just being angry he has to go off and find someone else to fight for the day.

I think his motivations are the most erhm ambiguous. Hidan&Kakuzu, Sasori&Deidara are very much defined by what they bicker about and Kisame is a mixed bag of brutality but subtle self-awarness. I really liked his flashback during the death scene it just gave you a whole other dimension with which to look at him. Not even him protecting Tobi, but I think it's a very samurai ideal of loyalty, he's defined by his loyalty whereas the others are defined like you said their self-centeredness.

Awww really? I kind of like going back and being like WHAT WAS THAT STUFF? BERTIE BOTTS? the rediscovery of all the little peculiar notes for certain fandoms.
