This was terribly well done, and terribly in character, and terribly wonderful.
The word choice for each "Whatever, I don't care" was perfect.
Goddamnit, now I miss this fandom way too much.

thank you so much! I'm glad you noticed the varying words for the "Whatever, I don't care," bit. I enjoyed placing those hints at Jay's pride being eaten away.
