Urrr, ok that's just wrong all wrong for a number of reasons. Oh, and I just had a snap on a far better way of doing this. First the down-side... Hard to stack, bad transmission of heat, hot-spots on the bottom, dead spaces in the middle, oh, the middle will get hotter too so will cook at a different rate than the edges. Unless this is made out of copper it's gonna be a bitch to manage. Will take some serious storage stacking space. Let's see, oh, didn't see what those flipping sticks are but I can imagine.
Better much better: You know those hinged tea-spoon things? How about that? Could even have a pump-bulb nozzle thing built into the handle. Hmmm, make one of those out of moderate-thick cast-iron, rugged and able to hold a good load of heat. Mmmm, I'm absolutely in love with this enormous cast-iron pan my aunt gave me, the ultimate for pancakes. You'd just glop your dough in and close, like a huge individual waffle-maker.
But gods I love my cast iron, heated properly they're wonderful for even heat and heat retention. Big fry pan, little fry pan, griddle, cast iron enameled dutch oven. I love them.
Oh it would be such a badly working pita - but I like the idea :)
an awful lot of these "as seen on TV" gizmos seem to be various types of old-time gimmicks with a marketing spin. especially the food things - the salad spinner, the crank-handle "automatic" potato/apple peeler, the aeblskiver pan, the grilled-sandwich press. some of them have been modernized by being electrically heated instead of needing to be held over a gas flame, but the ideas go back to the late 1800s. i think the hair-cutting device that fastens onto the vacuum cleaner originally goes back to the 1950s, as well as the scissors that can cut through a coin. "everything old is new again"...
me I'm just looking for potatoe ricers to come back into fashion. and those branding iron looking things the swedes use for making deep fried cookies (blast if I can think of the name right now)
