[Character Information] Name: DCI Gene Hunt Fandom: Life on Mars History: As the head of the Manchester and Salford Police Criminal Investigations Department, fortysomething Gene Hunt is the self-proclaimed sheriff of 1973 Manchester, UK. The hard-drinking, chain-smoking copper is fiercely loyal to his team and his missus. Gene's foul mouth and penchant for violence disguise a keen intellect and instinct. That nancy-boy Tyler somehow interprets his strapping manliness as being an "overweight, over-the-hill, nicotine-stained, borderline alcoholic homophobe with a superiority complex and an unhealthy obsession with male bonding." He makes that sound like a bad thing, the div. Powers: Strength, hand-to-hand combat skills, fearlessness, liver and lungs with amazing regenerative abilities :) Other: I'm American, so Britpicking is welcome!
[Writing SampleGene focused his whiskey-blurred concentration on the book of matches in his hand. The pervy bastard

LOL! I wish I could take credit for the Bowie references, but it goes to the "Life on Mars" creators. They're Bowieaholics. Gene calling himself the Gene Genie is canon. :)
In case you haven't heard, the sequel to "Life on Mars" airs in the UK next month. It's called "Ashes to Ashes." Somehow I think you'll get the reference.
I haven't seen Life on Mars, ever! So I didn't know that they're all about the Bowie. Which is sad, because I've been told I would really like it because of the plot, without any mention of the good taste in tunes.
(This is still bsp_mod, but if I have to use that lj signout thing one more time today and my comment gets deleted anyway, I will kill an entire village full of Eskimos.)
If someone's already recommended LoM to you, keep an eye out for it on BBC America. Or if you have a region-free DVD player you could buy the region 2 DVD set.
Sadly, my DVD player was $20, at Walmart, and is bright purple. I think that if I tried to make it play anything other than the bargain bin DVDs, it would scream and hide behind the couch. However, I'm totally going to add it my must-download list (which gets a little longer every day). And probably I'll have it all watched within a few months, or at least after I finish ReBoot :D
Also, the someone who recommended Life on Mars to me is the Sam player, so... y'all are biased, I'm sure, but I'm still going to lean wit it, rock wit it.
Anyways, if this isn't too... I don't know, online stalkerish, I've been trying to get everyone's AIM or YIM, or whatever- both for the purposes of plotting and so I'll know everyone on the comm as more than just "X-player". If you don't want to post it on the intarwebs my email is mydog8themoon{at]yahoo[dot}com. Or if you don't give it out at all, that's cool too. Just making the attempt.

For some reason the "bright purple" detail totally cracked me up. :)
I'll email you my AIM username. Color me paranoid. ;)
