I'm sorry, but I just HAD to reply with oodles of info & more!!!! azul_ros September 13 2003, 17:39:43 UTC
I've been an astrology student for approximately 9 years now. I could point you to some great texts to expand your knowledge on the subject. BTW, what is the name & author of the text you were given? I'm quite curious. I own several different books on the subject but only a small number were worth the money I'd spent on them. Noel Tyl is the best author for the serious astrology purveyor. There are several websites as well that can assist you. This one is from a person who started in the same beginning astrology class I took. He's now a professional & has even written some of his own theories, alongside Noel Tyl ( ... )

Thank you for your insight. I'm not completely dumb to the idea of astrology, it's just that I had always dismissed it as more of a statistic than a reliable source of divination. Finding it to be accurate was quite a shock to me. I would like to move beyond my neophyte astrology skills and develop more of a mastery. Maybe we can get together sometime and discuss it over coffee?

I can't remember the name of the book or the author. I'm at work right now, I'll grab it for you when I get home. I think the book is called "The Secret Language of Birthdays"... I know it's something like that, but I'm far from positive.

My mom got that book for me. It's pretty good. The thing I don't like is that once you read your traits, that's it. Nothing more to it. It's more of a personality reference book I suppose. Or you can see if someone else who's birthday you know is supposed to be compatible or not.

Yeah, talkin' astrology over coffee sounds fun! What's your B-day? Do you know the birthtime? That's the only way to get the complete chart done. I'd be interested to see what yours looks like! :) In fact, that would be a great place to start learning, and where all teachers of astrology start with their students!

What more should there be that it's missing? If you look through the birthday notation itself, then reference the traits of the sign (Virgo II in my case), and finally research the season (Summer in my case), it provides a large amount of information. I think there's a section on planets in the book as well, though I haven't had a chance to read that part yet.

My birthday is 09/05/1983. I don't know what time I was born... sometime early in the morning, like 3-4am, I think. I'll ask my mother next time I speak with her, though it's rare.

I LOVE THOSE BOOKS!
what is the title of the one you have?
that's all i'll sometimes read at Barnes&Noble...besides Edgar Allan Poe, Anne Rice, and books on witchcraft.
I'll grab about 3 at a time and compare the information they provide.
it is freaky how accurate they can be.
*hugs*

Once in a very great while, I'll do a tarot reading for someone. They are always very spookily accurate.

I really think divination, even in the case of astrology, goes back to the energy principal. How everything in the universe is made up of this same primal energy and therefor connected.

Of course, it's the same idea that something may not be coincidental that is one of the chief reasons for my belief in The Deity. ;) Some things are simply too calculated to really end up being coincident I think. But there's really any number of explanations. From the energy theory to the deity theory to the theory of mind over matter. If you believe in something enough does it manifest?
